Oklahoma screenwriter turns great-grandmother’s story into film
COLLINSVILLE, Okla. – Oklahoma screenwriter and director Katie Hoffman-Faulk is bringing a deeply personal story to the screen this spring, as her short filmSaphrona prepares to go into production in Collinsville.
Hoffman-Faulk, who began screenwriting in 2023, is the writer and director of the 13-minute dark-comedy thriller inspired by an event involving her great-grandmother in 1952. The film centers on a Shawnee grandmother whose quiet day is disrupted by two overeager salesmen offering something she wants no part of — a fictionalized retelling rooted in a real history of Native landowners, particularly women, being manipulated out of their land allotments…
