Wichita golfers flock to courses on warmest day of winter

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The warmest day of the winter so far brought more than just pleasant weather to south-central Kansas—it brought a rush of eager golfers ready to get back on the greens.

On a picture-perfect early February day, with sunny skies and temperatures getting above 75 degrees, golfers throughout the region took advantage of near-ideal golfing conditions. The timing couldn’t have been better: a day after the Super Bowl and during what would normally be the heart of winter golf dormancy.

Perfect conditions bring perfect crowds

At Macdonald Golf Course, the response was overwhelming. Jesse Coffman, director of Golf Wichita, reported that all four city courses reached 100 percent capacity on the day.

“Any day that we have that’s nice right now the courses are packed,” Coffman said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s a Monday, a Thursday, or a Saturday. Golf is doing really well right now, it’s very popular, and these nice days are just adding to that.”…
