Rain, winds weaken as storm passes through islands

HONOLULU (KHON2) — After several days of strong winds and rain, the weather seems to be letting up today, Feb. 10, through the rest of the workweek.

As conditions dwindle down, there are still some strong winds throughout the islands, but not as strong as seen in the past few days. The National Weather Service downgraded Hawaiʻi’s High Wind Warning to a High Wind Advisory, meaning slightly weaker winds will be present in the islands.

What’s the difference between a Wind Advisory, Watch?

Western islands like Kauaʻi and Niʻihau are drier today, with the remainder of the islands seeing patchy showers throughout the day. Additionally, the temperature is set to be relatively warmer today, with low 70s predicted for the islands.

Though there is still some moderate to heavy wet weather throughout Honolulu, Maui and Hawaiʻi Counties, the National Weather Service does not have a Flood Watch or Flood Advisory in effect.

However, there is still a High Surf Advisory, largely due to strong winds. In addition to the surf advisory, there is also a Gale Warning until 6 a.m. on Feb. 11, so don’t plan on taking your small vessels out into the ocean…
