Alcoa city and city schools officials have tentatively agreed to partner with public safety organization Blue Line Solutions to address speeding concerns and projected traffic increases along school zone roadways.
At a joint meeting of the Alcoa City Board of Commissioners and the City Schools Board on Thursday, City Manager Bruce Applegate confirmed the groups reached an agreement to begin work on a school zone traffic safety and speed enforcement project ahead of and continuing into fiscal year 2027.
“We do expect to have a few things in the ’27 budget like additional traffic safety officers, cameras, some pedestrian improvements and a few other items for the school campus specifically that will hopefully address some of those concerns outside of that memorandum of understanding,” Applegate said. “With that said, the project is looking at what are essentially traffic cameras through this corridor that would operate an hour before school starts and an hour after school lets out.”…
