Mobile Co. Sheriff’s Office makes kidnapping arrest in missing family investigation

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — One man has been charged with kidnapping a missing Theodore family. Juan Guerra is accused of taking 40-year-old Aurelia Choc Cac, 17-year-old Niurka Zuleta Choc, and 2-year-old Anthony Choc from their Ben Hamilton Road home. Neighbors last saw the family on January 31st. Investigators say on Monday the 31-year-old was pulled over for a traffic stop in Bay Minette, took off into the woods and was found hours later by a canine unit hiding under a house. He’s currently in Mobile Metro Jail. Investigators still don’t know where the family is, but they believe they were taken from their home alive.

“We’re hoping that someone will tell us where they are. Anytime you arrest somebody, you’re in hopes that they’re going to tell you what occurred. Our main goal is to find them safely and bring them back home,” said Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch.

On Tuesday, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office released a timeline in the case. A suspicious black van was seen at the family’s home in the early morning hours the day they were reported missing. After nine days of searching video cameras, the MCSO and FBI connected that van to Juan Guerra. He’s now charged with three counts of kidnapping…
