Alabama severe weather sales tax holiday begins Feb. 20

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — Alabama’s 15th annual severe weather preparedness sales tax Holiday begins Feb. 20.

The three-day holiday runs through midnight Sunday, Feb. 22, allowing shoppers to purchase qualifying emergency supplies without paying the state’s 4% sales tax. The annual event is intended to encourage residents to prepare for severe weather.

Preparedness supplies priced under $94 per item are tax-free. Portable generators and power cords priced under $1,564 also qualify. Eligible items include flashlights, batteries, weather radios, tarps and other emergency supplies.
