An effort by Newark City Council to request the ability to increase the city’s hotel tax to the highest rate in Delaware came up one vote short.
A resolution that would have asked the Delaware General Assembly for the right to assess an up to a 5% hotel tax failed by a 5-2 vote, when 75% of council had to agree to the idea.
