When I first heard about Michael Mathews’ plan to break a world record, I assumed it would be the kind of story built on adrenaline — speed, risks, bragging rights.
Then I learned he is structuring the attempt around being home in Baton Rouge to watch his son graduate from Catholic High and then again in August when his son starts college. I don’t often meet someone trying to ski seven continents in less than 300 days while planning the adventure around senior-year milestones.
Still, planning to set a world record and actually setting one are, of course, two different things…
