FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Nearly $100 million in federal grants will help pay for Northwest Arkansas and River Valley interstate and highway road construction projects.
Of the $105.5 million in funding will go toward six projects across the state with $91.8 million going toward four local projects, the Arkansas Department of Transportation announced in a release Friday.
The final phase of the Springdale Northern Bypass will get $59 million, $18.8 million will go toward the Interstate 49 extension from Alma to Barling, $11 million will pay for Highway 412 corridor improvements and $3 million for the next phase of the Highway 112 widening project, the release stated.

“The growth in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley contribute significantly to the need for these projects,” Ellen Coulter, media communications manager for the Arkansas Department of Transportation, said. “A lot of these projects are major interstates, major highways that carry a lot of traffic, and those projects are needed to accommodate for the economic development and the growing population in that region of the state.”…
