Tony Thomas gets prison for murder at Executive Inn

LUBBOCK, Texas — Following the guilty plea and sentencing of his co-defendant, Tony Thomas, 35, received his sentence Tuesday for his role in the murder of 33-year-old Jose Gonzalez in 2024.

According to previous reports by EverythingLubbock.com, officers responded to shooting call at the Executive Inn, located in the 4100 block of Avenue Q, on April 13, 2024. Gonzalez would be found deceased at the scene. Court documents revealed that Thomas and his accomplice, Leeroy Trevino Jr., were seen attempting to break into Gonzalez’s vehicle after he had entered it on the night of the shooting. Gonzalez then tried to reverse the vehicle to escape the pair, when they began shooting at it. Witnesses said that the saw both run through a hole in a nearby fence after the shooting.

On Tuesday, Thomas pleaded guilty and received a sentence of 30 years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility. He faced an enhancement to his sentence, due to previous charges and a deadly weapon finding, so his sentence range was 25 to 99 years or life in prison…
