Man sentenced after pleading guilty in St. Louis crash that killed 5 family members

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A man has been sentenced in a 2022 crash that killed five family members.

Marshawn Stepney, 21, was sentenced to 25 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to five counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of first-degree tampering and one count of felony leaving the scene of a crash.

On May 6, 2022, Stepney was driving a stolen gray 2015 Jeep Cherokee linked to several vehicle thefts in the area. The Jeep sideswiped a gray Infiniti QX56 near the intersection of Delmar Boulevard and Union and drove off. The driver of the Infiniti called the police, and a passenger in the Jeep fired shots at the Infiniti.

When officers arrived, they deployed spike strips to slow the Jeep, but Stepney kept driving, reaching 80 miles per hour on Delmar. The Jeep then crashed into a minivan near the intersection of Delmar and Pendleton…
