An accident in Southern Idaho turned deadly when a driver fled the scene of a crash and hit multiple other vehicles while headed in the wrong direction on the highway. A passenger in one of the vehicles was killed in the crash and four others were taken to local hospitals.
The Idaho State Police responded to the crash and are investigating.
4 Injured 1 Dead in Southern Idaho Wrong Way Highway Accident
The deadly accident happened on Friday evening, a few minutes before 8 on Interstate 84 between Caldwell and Nampa at mile marker 32. The accident involved four vehicles on the highway, including one from an initial hit-and-run.
A social media post from ISP states that the Ford truck, mentioned below, side swiped one vehicle while heeded west in the eastbound lanes near exit 33 then caused a three-vehicle crash at mile marker 32 under the Middleton Road overpass. According to the Idaho State Police, these are the vehicles and their occupants involved in the crash:
- A silver 2003 Ford F350, driven by a 37-year-old male from Nampa, ID, fled from the scene of a crash driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of travel on I84.
- The Ford side-swiped a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by a 61-year-old male from Jacksonville, FL.
- The Ford continued westbound in the eastbound lanes of travel before colliding head-on with a silver 2013 Hyundai Elantra.
- The Hyundai was driven by a 23-year-old male from Ontario, OR and had one passenger: a 20-year-old female from Homedale, ID.
- A silver 2019 Honda HRV driven by a 23-year old female from Nampa, ID and a passenger: a 20-year-old female from Ontario, OR, was also involved.
The passenger in the Hyundai passed away at the scene of the crash and all other occupants, except for the driver of the semi-truck, were taken to local hospitals for care…
