Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy arrested after wife said he punched her was nominated for domestic violence service award in 2022

Peter Markusen, 40, was charged with one count of third-degree assault by knowingly or recklessly causing injury, one count of harassment by striking, shoving or kicking, and one count of child abuse by knowingly or recklessly causing no injury in January, according to online court records.

In October 2022, Markusen was one of three Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputies nominated for the Beth Haynes Award, which is given to law enforcement officers in Boulder County who have “demonstrated excellent skills, commitment and passion in addressing intimate partner violence as a significant public health issue,” according to the Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County, which sponsors the award. Winners are selected from a group of nominees by their law enforcement peers.
