A 26-year-old man picked up in Boca Raton last Tuesday is now at the center of a deadly Catawba County fentanyl case that dates back to February 2025. Authorities have identified the suspect as Juan Solarte, who is being held in Florida while he awaits extradition to North Carolina in connection with the overdose death of Jacob Lee Kirk.
Arrest and charges
According to WCNC, Solarte faces a charge of death by distribution along with a separate count for selling a Schedule II controlled substance. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office told WCNC the arrest is directly tied to the February 2025 fentanyl overdose death of Kirk and emphasized that the investigation is still very much active.
