Smyrna basement burglary leads to arrest, police say

John Edward Sparks, 61, of Dahlonega, is accused of breaking into the basement of the victim’s Smyrna residence on Feb. 1 at 7:22 a.m., according to an arrest warrant from the Smyrna Police Department.

Sparks broke a single glass square near the handle and reached inside to unlock the door. Entering the home, he began screaming and banging throughout the basement looking for items to take. The damage was an amount less than $500. Sparks was also captured on the next door neighbor’s doorbell camera walking up to doors and looking inside at approximately 5:33 a.m., according to the warrant.

Sparks is charged with burglary – first degree; loiter prowl; and criminal trespass damage. He was arrested on Feb. 2 at 7:22 a.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records…
