An inmate at Sacramento County’s Main Jail died after suffering a suspected seizure last Friday and being hospitalized for several days. Deputies and jail medical staff found the inmate in distress Friday evening, and around 6 p.m. the person was taken to a nearby hospital by the fire department.
The inmate reportedly underwent surgery on Sunday evening and was pronounced dead later that night. Authorities have opened an in-custody death investigation, and the coroner will determine the cause of death and release the identity after notifying next of kin, according to ABC10.

The department maintains a public transparency page that explains how in-custody death investigations are handled, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say records tied to such probes are released after internal review and in accordance with state guidelines.
