LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Lexington’s Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention (OHPI) has activated the city’s Emergency Winter Weather Plan from Wednesday through Saturday, with officials continuing to monitor the forecast.
OHPI leaders posted on Facebook around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, that the plan would stay active through Feb. 14, saying that updates would be provided when appropriate.

“The Emergency Winter Weather Plan provides a coordinated response for times when extreme cold weather creates additional, immediate need for expanded capacity to assist persons experiencing homelessness in Lexington,” the OHPI wrote. “Extreme temperatures often force persons to seek shelter who may not otherwise seek assistance.”

Under activation of the plan, Lexington emergency shelters will reportedly operate with additional capacity and relax previous restrictions, with Lextran providing free fixed routes to shelters. Outreach efforts will also work to inform those in need about the cold and help them get to safety…
