EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The 2026-27 campus teachers of the year at the Ysleta Independent School District (YISD) were honored during a special ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Eastwood High School, where officials also announced the top 10 finalists for the district’s top two teaching awards, which were the teacher of the year and the secondary teacher of the year.
The top five finalists for the 2026-27 Ysleta ISD elementary teacher of the year are:
- Desertaire Elementary School: Griselda Gutierrez
- Loma Terrace Elementary School: Angelica Castaneda
- Parkland Elementary School: Tara Mendoza
- Pasodale Elementary School: Arturo Cruz
- Ramona STEM Academy: Hilda Sias
The top five finalists for the 2026-27 Ysleta ISD secondary teacher of the year are:
- Hanks Middle School: Kim Vandagriff
- Parkland Pre-Engineering Middle School: Karina Rodriguez
- Hanks High School: Kristal Nazario
- Parkland High School: Sylvia Weaver
- Ysleta High School: Jacob Pined
All campus teachers of the year, as well as all campus support employees of the year, will be honored at the Ysleta ISD Teacher and Support Employee of the Year gala which will take place at 6 p.m. on April 25 at the Paso Del Norte hotel.
