Jackson State senior first baseman Wilbert Perez was named to the Preseason First Team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference, the league announced Tuesday. The Tigers are projected to finish fifth in the conference standings.
Perez, a 6-foot-6 infielder, hit .324 last season in 49 games. He recorded 60 hits in 185 at-bats, with 12 doubles, one triple and eight home runs. He posted a .945 OPS, scored 32 runs and drove in 48 RBIs. His slugging percentage was .530, and his on-base percentage was .415. Perez also drew 19 walks, was hit by a pitch 11 times, and stole five bases, according to SWAC officials.
