30 Year Old Man Who Took Part In Boise Prison Escape Pleads Guilty To Killing Two North Central Idaho Men Including 83 Year Old James Mauney Of Juliaetta

The 30 year old man who took part in a prison escape in Boise and then murdered two men in North Central Idaho has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to life.

Nez Perce County Second District Court Judge Michelle Evans sentenced Nicholas Umphenour to life in prison on Tuesday. Umphenour pleaded guilty to two counts of 1st degree murder with an Alford plea. The Alford plea allows Umphenour to plead guilty while maintaining his innocence. The plea allows Umphenour to avoid the death penalty.

Umphenour helped 33 year old Skylar Meade escape from prison custody at a Boise hospital in March of 2024. He fired on prison officers at the hospital allowing Meade to escape. The men fled to North Central Idaho and murdered 83 year old James Mauney of Juliaetta and 72 year old Gerald Henderson of Orofino. They were arrested the next day in Southern Idaho…
