INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Incline High School’s “We the People” team placed first in the state and will represent Nevada at the national competition. Reno High School placed second in the state, and Reed High School’s team placed third, continuing a long tradition of achievement and excellence in local, state, and national We the People competitions for Washoe County School District (WCSD).
Reno High School’s team was selected as a wildcard team and will also compete at the national competition in April in Bethesda, Maryland.
We the People is a rigorous course of study sponsored by the Center for Civic Education, designed to help students gain an increased understanding of the fundamental principles and values upon which the institutions of constitutional democracy are founded. In the course of their studies, students learn the skills necessary to participate in society as responsible citizens and to use democratic procedures for making decisions and managing conflict.
“The We the People State Invitational shows what’s possible when students are given meaningful opportunities to learn and be heard,” said Christine Hull, executive director of the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement, which sponsors the program in Nevada. “Students across Nevada demonstrated deep constitutional understanding and confidence—growth that reflects both their hard work and the dedication of the educators who guide them.”…
