Portland’s move to zone for more affordable housing riles neighbors who feel neglected by the city

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland city councilors are expected to approve a new zoning map Wednesday which would clear the way for more affordable housing development in 19 different areas of the city.

One of those areas, a proposed site in the Centennial neighborhood off Southeast 148th Avenue, has dealt with the impacts of homelessness and crime for years. Longtime neighbors say they support the push for more housing, but they also fear it could come at a cost.
