Bijou Phillips Hospitalized, Urgently Seeking Second Kidney Transplant
Actress Bijou Phillips, 45, has been hospitalized in Los Angeles as she awaits a crucial second kidney transplant. Phillips, who has battled kidney disease since birth, made a public plea on social media Wednesday, detailing her challenging health journey and her urgent need for a living donor.
Currently under the care of Dr. Anjay Rastogi at UCLA, Phillips is back on dialysis.
She received her first kidney transplant in 2017, a gift that provided her with eight precious years as a mother to her daughter. However, she has since experienced numerous complications, including the BK virus, which led to both cellular and antibody rejection of the transplanted organ.
In her online post, Phillips shared, “I was born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent the first three months of life in the NICU on dialysis.” She added, “Please help me find a living donor so that I can have more time with my daughter, family, and friends.”
Support for Phillips has poured in from celebrity friends, with Kathy Hilton sending “prayers, love and light.” Kimberley Stewart and Ashley Benson also offered messages of encouragement, with Benson noting, “We are all supporting you and you are not alone.”
This health update comes months after Phillips filed for divorce from actor Danny Masterson in September 2023, following his sentencing to 30 years to life in prison for two counts of forcible rape. The couple, who married in 2011, share one daughter.
