Senator Mitch McConnell Discharged From Hospital, Working From Home

Washington D.C. – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was released from the hospital on Tuesday after being admitted over a week ago for “flu-like symptoms,” his spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

The Republican leader is “feeling better and will be working from home this week on the advice of his doctors,” the spokesman stated.

According to a statement issued on February 3rd, Senator McConnell sought hospital care out of “an abundance of caution” and his “prognosis is positive.”

McConnell’s last vote in the Senate was on January 30th, when a significant government funding package was approved. With a partial government shutdown recently averted, Congress is now facing a Friday deadline to secure funding for the Department of Homeland Security, the only remaining agency not funded through September.

A survivor of childhood polio, Senator McConnell has experienced several health incidents in recent years. In 2023, he was hospitalized with a concussion following a fall and subsequently had two instances where he appeared to momentarily freeze. He also sustained minor injuries from another fall in 2024.

Last year, McConnell announced his decision not to seek re-election in 2026, marking the end of a career spanning over four decades in the Senate.
