Kroger blasted by shoppers for opening mini ‘casinos’ with gambling machines in store

A RECENT addition to Kroger stores that has little to do with basic necessities has left shoppers furious.

While many are taking issue with the games’ presence in the store itself, others are pointing to the issue of how commonplace gambling has become.

In 2025, Kroger installed gambling machines called coin operated amusement machines (COAMs), introducing what appear to be mini casinos at select locations across Georgia, including Macon, Milledgeville, Warner Robins, South Fulton, and Powder Springs.

Although traditional cash-payout gambling is technically illegal in Georgia, these COAMs circumvent this law by offering a variety of other prizes, such as store credit, prepaid gift cards, and other non-cash rewards…
