Parents of officer killed push to change state law

OHIO — The parents of a police officer killed in the line of duty are pushing to reform state law so their son’s accused killer will face trial.

A judge ruled the suspect isn’t competent to stand trial, and the family said that’s because he deliberately didn’t take his medication, hoping to run out the state’s current one-year-limit to restore competency and bring him to trial.

Jamieson Ritter’s parents, Karen and Jon Ritter, along with the state senators proposing the bill, said right now they’re on a time crunch with just nine days left to show his accused killer is competent to stand trial…
