An affidavit is shedding more light on the fatal shooting of a teen in December at Berry Park in Leesburg.
The U.S. Marshals Task Force took 17-year-old James Albert Fenderson IV into custody on the afternoon of Feb. 4 for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Juan Gomez Jr. of Grand Island in December. The Leesburg Police Department announced that detectives are conducting interviews and may be releasing more information if found appropriate to do so.
Law enforcement continues to encourage a second person of interest, D’Yuntre Wright, to turn himself in as they investigate the homicide.
On Dec. 14, 2025, officers with the LPD responded to Berry Park, located at 2121 Johns Ave., regarding someone being shot around 1 p.m., according to an affidavit of probable cause out of Lake County. It was there they found Gomez slumped over in the driver’s seat of a black 2014 Mazda SUV.
Gomez was unresponsive and seemed to have sustained at least one gunshot wound. He was ultimately pronounced dead by emergency personnel from Lake County Fire Rescue and the Leesburg Fire Department, the affidavit said…
