INTERVIEW: Special Pedals nonprofit provides job training for neurodiverse adults in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A nonprofit organization in downtown Wilmington is providing job training opportunities for neurodiverse adults through bicycle repair, maintenance and retail experience.

Special Pedals focuses on giving neurodiverse adults skills they can use to build their resumes or join the organization’s staff as contributing community members, Tim Bauer and Lingam James, who work with the program, said.

The organization operates as a bike shop that accepts donated bicycles, refurbishes and rebuilds them, and sells them to the community, which funds the program’s operations…
