NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Pope Leo XIV accepted the resignation of Archbishop Gregory Aymond and named James Checchio as the 15th archbishop of New Orleans.
The 76-year-old Aymond served one year past the mandatory retirement age for bishops.
