Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

DENVER (KDVR) — Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy just a few months after a jury awarded a family $205 million in a wrongful death lawsuit.

On Sept. 5, 2021, 6-year-old Wongel Estfanos was killed after being thrown from her seat and falling 110 feet on the Haunted Mine Drop ride at the park. An investigation revealed that there were “multiple operator errors” that led to the deadly accident, including that her seatbelt was not buckled despite a warning light alerting the ride attendant, who reset the system and started the ride.

The Estfanos family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the park and the ride manufacturer, Soaring Eagle, Inc., the following month, and in September 2025, a jury awarded the family $205 million.

After the ruling, the park released a statement saying the verdict award “puts the existence of Glenwood Caverns at serious risk” and could impact jobs…
