Fort Collins woman finds love on viral Irish matchmaking trip

Unlike most love stories, this one starts with a woman holed up in her house watching “Schitt’s Creek.”

It was almost six years ago and “I, just like so many people during COVID, was sitting on my couch probably wrapped in a blanket,” Mary Timby recalled. That’s when she heard one of the show’s main characters casually mention an Irish matchmaking festival.

Timby, who lives in Fort Collins, perked up. She searched online and found that the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival was not only real, but world famous. Each September, it draws thousands to the west coast of Ireland — filling Lisdoonvarna’s pubs with singles as part of what’s become known as “the world’s biggest offline dating festival.”…
