Ann Arbor takes aim at hidden renter fees in apartment leases with new law

ANN ARBOR, MI — A new law coming to Ann Arbor aims to put an end to hidden fees in apartment leases.

“This ordinance is about rent transparency with one core principle: honesty in pricing,” said Mayor Pro Tem Travis Radina, lead sponsor of the update to the city’s housing code.

“When tenants see a rent advertised, they should be able to rely on that number to reflect their real unavoidable monthly housing cost — no mandatory fees or hidden costs adding hundreds of dollars to the lease that they were signing,” he said…
