MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — The NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services fined 10 stores in nine counties for price scanning errors that led to overcharging customers. Four stores are local to the Charlotte area.
The department conducted surprise inspections of price-scanner systems in these stores to check if the price an item is advertised at is the same as the price it rings up for at the counter.
Stores with an error rate over 2%, a follow-up inspection is done. If stores fail the second inspections, they are fined and re-inspected until they reach an error rate under 2%. The inspections took place in the final quarter of 2025…
