‘It’s my negligence that led to everything’: Clarksville mother sentenced to 20 years following son’s death from malnutrition

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Clarksville woman was sentenced Wednesday to decades in prison after her teenage son starved to death back in 2022.

According to the Clarksville Police Department, first responders went to Cheyenne Maddox’s home, where they found 13-year-old Kadaris Maddox — who was born with cerebral palsy — dead in July 2022. More than three years later, in October 2025, Maddox was found guilty of reckless homicide and aggravated child neglect.

“I know now and wish I could go back and change so many things and trade places so that he was here with his siblings, and it was me,” Maddox said prior to sentencing, which took place on Wednesday, Feb. 11. “It’s my negligence that led to everything, and I hold myself accountable for that.”…
