WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Loved ones are mourning the loss of a well-known Winston-Salem woman after a deadly house fire over the weekend.
Veronica Sawyer died Sunday evening after a fire at her home on Bertha Street in Winston-Salem. First responders were able to get Sawyer out of the house but were unable to save her life. The Winston-Salem Fire Department said unattended cooking caused the fire.
Sawyer’s son, Carlos Sawyer, described his mother as “one of the most well-rounded people you could ever meet,” saying her love is a gift he will hold on to for a lifetime…
