Grand Rapids suburb overhauls zoning code to preserve character

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, MI – An affluent Grand Rapids suburb is updating its zoning code in an effort to preserve its character while addressing concerns related to traffic, growth and walkability.

The Cascade Township Board of Trustees voted Wednesday, Feb. 11, to approve the new zoning ordinance, which included a few tweaks in response to opposition from some residents, realtors and property owners who felt the changes were too restrictive toward new development.

Township officials said it was time to update Cascade’s zoning ordinance because the previous language was outdated and did not reflect Cascade’s goals today.
