St. Petersburg explores future without Duke Energy

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — St. Petersburg is taking a closer look at whether it should create its own, city-run electric company and potentially end its long-standing relationship with Duke Energy.

City leaders have launched a municipal electric utility feasibility study to determine if forming a city-owned utility would be financially, legally, and operationally possible — and whether it would better serve residents.
