SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WKRC) – Indiana brides are facing alleged harassment from a union after they listed a boycotted hotel on their wedding websites.
According to CBS News, Lauren Johnson said she has been harassed by members of a Chicago hotel workers’ union after she listed the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend as a recommended location for her wedding guests to stay.
Johnson, who is preparing to marry in July, told the network the harassment has driven her to file police reports and send a cease-and-desist request to the union, UNITE HERE Local 1, whose actions allegedly include the following:
- Sending fake wedding invitations
- Making phone calls to Johnson’s family
- Making phone calls to Johnson’s friends
- Making phone calls to the workplaces of Johnson’s friends
- Staging a protest outside her workplace
UNITE HERE Local 1 represents hotel and hospitality workers in the City of Chicago and reportedly became aware of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend being posted on her wedding website.
“I just recommended it on my wedding website because it was one of the closest hotels,” Johnson said when speaking with the outlet, further stating that she hadn’t signed any contract with the hotel or booked any rooms for her guests. “I thought it was a scam, because I was like, ‘This can’t be real. Why are they trying to get me to boycott a hotel that I’m not involved with?'”…
