MILAN (WIFR) – The United States is the most-represented National Olympic Committee with 233 athletes wearing the stars and stripes.
Of that substantial bunch are a couple competitors who hail from the Rockford, Illinois region.
Cameron Smith, ski mountaineering
Guilford graduate and Rockford native Cam Smith is no stranger to competition, as an 11-time US Ski Mountaineering national champion and five-time North American Ski Mountaineering champion.
However, this is the first time ski mountaineering, commonly referred to as skimo, is in the Olympics. Skimo is the first new winter Olympic sport since snowboarding was added in 1998.
If you don’t know what skimo is, Team USA describes it as “a sport where athletes climb up a mountain and then ski down it.”…
