Facing cuts that could soar as high as $17 million, Poudre School District’s Board of Education is being asked to consider eliminating the jobs of some teachers with continuing contracts.
Inflation and declining enrollment will lead to higher costs and static revenues for the district in the coming school year. That means PSD is facing a known budget reduction of at least $8 million, though further state cuts could lead to the loss of an additional $9 million, according to a Feb. 10 presentation to the board by Chief Finance Officer Dave Montoya.
Given that 85% of PSD’s operating budget of nearly $438 million goes to personnel costs, there is no way to cut that much money without reducing staffing, including licensed teachers on continuing contracts, Montoya and Lauren Hooten, the superintendent’s chief of staff, told the school board…
