Bakersfield property owners to receive sewer rate notices early March, public hearing set for April

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield City Council approved mailing out notices to property owners to give them a chance to protest the newly proposed sewer rates.

The City Council was set to consider approving the issuance of Proposition 218 notices to residents at its meeting on Wednesday.

If over 50% of property owners protest the proposed sewer rates, those rates would not be enacted.

The city is proposing a five-year increase for the first Proposition 218 period, with the rate going up from the current $247.13 to $475 in the first year then increasing by $100 every year until it goes up to $875 in the fifth year…
