Niagara County inmate attempts escape from jail

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Niagara County inmate allegedly unsuccessfully attempted to escape from the Niagara County Correctional Facility last week, according to the county sheriff’s office.

Robert Cox, 35, allegedly tried to escape the jail on Feb. 5. It is unclear what he did in his attempt to escape. Authorities said that during the escape a correction sergeant suffered injuries.

Cox was charged with third-degree attempted escape, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and third-degree assault. He had been initially booked last July on a drug charge, assault, petit larceny, obstructing governmental administration and violating his parole…
