Ex-East Cleveland clerk on house arrest after stealing $37K

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A former East Cleveland court employee was sentenced to house arrest and probation after confessing to stealing from the city.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge John Adams sentenced Orlando Chappell, a former deputy clerk at East Cleveland Municipal Court, to six months of home detention with work privileges and five years of probation. He was also ordered to pay back the $37,000 he stole from the city.
