MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — What started as routine yard work turned into a troubling discovery in the Mount Pleasant community, and now neighbors are warning others to think twice before leaving outgoing mail in their mailboxes. Mark Fitts, a Dunes West resident, said he was raking leaves near his home when he noticed what looked like trash in a wooded area nearby.
“I saw what looked like a bunch of trash,” Fitts said. But when he walked closer, he realized it wasn’t trash at all, it was 15 to 20 pieces of opened bills, personal letters, photos and even a birthday card, all stolen from neighbors’ mailboxes.
“I was pretty convinced that somebody was stealing checks out of people’s mail,” Fitts said…
