Woman still missing after leaving detention center in Knoxville nearly 40 years ago

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A woman who was last seen after leaving the Knox County Detention Center is still missing after nearly four decades.

According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), Sharon Virginia Martin’s loved ones have not heard from her since December 31, 1986, when she was 38 years old. NamUs said Martin was last seen after she was released from the Knox County Detention Facility.

Knox County court records show that a Sharon Virginia Ogilvie, which is one of the aliases listed for Martin on NamUs, was charged in October 1988 with possession with intent to sell. According to court records, Ogilvie’s address was listed in Hitchcock, Texas. The city is southeast of Houston and lies along West Bay.

When Martin was last seen, she was around 5″ to 5″3′ tall and weighed between 105 and 130 pounds. She had brown and sometimes auburn hair and green or hazel eyes, according to the NamUs profile on her case. NamUs also lists that she had a tattoo of a pair of angel wings on her left hand between her index finger and thumb.

Along with the name Ogelvie, NamUs said Martin may have also used the names of Cope, Shope, and Sam…
