SmashCity Knoxville seized over unpaid state taxes, notice shows

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville burger restaurant has closed with a notice posted on the property, stating that it was seized by the state over unpaid taxes.

SmashCity Knoxville, located at 211 S. Central Street, has closed. A Tennessee State Government Seizure notice posted at the business shows that the property has been seized for nonpayment of Tennessee State taxes.

Owners Paul and Ashley Moody are slated face a criminal trial in April after being indicted in 2024 on a charge of theft of at least $250,000. An indictment said the money was allegedly taken from RSQ Management while they managed the Marble City Market food hall.

It’s not yet clear if the seizure of the SmashCity Knoxville property is related to the case for which they will stand trial…
