Hearing held for man charged with killing Lowndes County’s sheriff

MACON COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – William Chase Johnson, the man charged with killing Lowndes County Sheriff John “Big John” Williams in late 2019, appeared in Macon County Circuit Court Wednesday for a scheduled status hearing.

The jury selection process and setting a trial date were the hearing’s two main topics of discussion.

Retired Circuit Court Judge Allen T. Jolley, who was recently appointed to the case as a result of the Speedy Trial Act, said the trial will “likely” take place in November. Although less likely, there was discussion of it being set as early as May.

If there is a conflict at the Macon County Courthouse, proceedings could be moved to the Tuskegee Municipal Complex…
