MA meat-packaging plant to close, lay off nearly 200 employees

A Massachusetts meat-packaging plant will close this summer, resulting in nearly 200 layoffs, according to state officials.

Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp. filed a public Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act Notification (WARN) this month, stating it will cease production at its Springfield facility in August.
