AUSTIN, Texas — A 38-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of an elderly victim who succumbed to injuries sustained in a violent assault.
On January 31, 2026, at 6:46 p.m., Austin Police Department officers responded to a welfare check at 1054 Springdale Road, where they found Robert Garcia, a 66-year-old Hispanic male, unconscious and bleeding with significant head trauma, according to a press release from the department. Garcia was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The suspect, Raymond Ware, a 38-year-old Black male, was located inside a nearby apartment. Despite attempts by officers to persuade him to surrender, Ware refused to exit.
