Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas says the incident shown in social media videos from Monday’s anti-ICE protest — in which officers appear to pin down and tackle students — remains under review. However, he noted that officers were encountering active resistance and said the videos do not show the full context of what happened.
Thomas says officers were attempting to keep students participating in the march safe and out of active roadways. He said an officer approached two students whom police describe as primary contributors to unsafe and unlawful behavior, and that the students attempted to pull away. Additional officers then intervened.
